Revolutionary New Training Device The Big Putt To Help European Golfers Hone Their Putting Skills
A revolutionary new putting training device, "The Big Putt" has established a strong reputation in the United States and has now been officially launched in the European market giving golfers across Europe the chance to home their putting skills. The Big Putt was developed by PGA Tour Caddie Mike Hicks and business entrepreneur Danny Gurley, drawing inspiration from Mike's 20 year career experience on the PGA Tour which included 12 years for Payne Stewart prior to the golfer's tragic death in 1999.
The Big Putt is a golf ball constructed of standard materials that 35 percent larger than regulation (The Big Putt is 1.95 inches in diameter compared to a regulation ball of 1.68 inches). By practicing putts from two to eight feet with the oversize ball, a golfer develops confidence that carries over to the golf course when using the smaller regulation ball. Despite its larger size the Big Putt has the same feel leaving the putter face as a regulation ball.
So what is the principle behind the concept? Hicks commented, "Putting is the name of the game. Think of any great player in golf and you can remember a big putt he made to win a major—whether it’s Tiger Woods or Phil Mickelson or Jack Nicklaus". Hicks believes that the putting green is the fastest way to lower scores and improvement can be influenced by repetitive practice and taking an increased positive mind set from the practice green onto the course. The Big Putt makes makes a wider track toward the hole so that when you get onto the golf course, you see that visual image with the regulation ball and it improves your confidence. The oversize ball also entices the golfer to accelerate through the putt hence reducing the chances of missing short putts by decelerating at the ball.
The Big Putt On Tour
The Big Putt is already used extensively on the US PGA Tour with a growing reputation. Leading the way is World Number 13 Jim Furyk who comments, "I think it's great practice. The Big Putt makes you concentrate more". Jim's viewpoint is shared by a number of other professionals.
